Last time I posted, I said I was on my way to speak the a lawyer about filing bankruptcy. So much has happened since then! First, bankruptcy is no longer looming on the horizon. Through a set of very fortunate circumstances, and the hand of God, I have been able to pay off several debts and get all my other ones current, except for the house!

Or perhaps I should say my "debt" worth, since I'm so far on the negative side that it almost seems hopeless. Even if don't include the house that is in being foreclosed on, I'm still on the negative side- just not as much. Figuring out my net worth did not help brighten my financial picture- in fact, it seems even more like perhaps I should start seriously looking into bankruptcy. Check out my sidebar for my Net Worth badge- it's taken a real dip since I did my first badge in June. In fact, I now have the lowest net worth at NetWothIQ.com Continue reading »

I may have to rethink the plan of being debt free in two years. I really didn't count on not having any income whatsoever for several months. Loosing your only source of income, while being so far in debt and not having an emergency fund simply isn't a great combination.

Unfortunately, I didn't make any progress towards eliminating my debt in September. Actually, I added to my debt due to late fees and over the limit charges. Our income for September was pretty much $0....and I'm not exaggerating. My hubby is only making enough for him to live off of while he is in China (at this point anyway), not enough to send anything home. I don't really have any expenses, since I'm mooching off my parents (ugh), but I also had no money to make the minimum payments on my cards. We didn't manage to make the car and all the insurance payments, so that's at least something.

I'm always looking for stories about people legitimately making money by working online. A few months ago, I came across the "My Debt Free Goal" blog by Amy Bass. She's an average "Jane" who has made money online through various methods...enough money to pay off nearly $55,000 in debt! Since that is my goal as well, I scoured her blog to find out how she did it. Continue reading »

Baby Step 1 of Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University is supposed to be completed ASAP. I'm about to start week 4 of of FPU, and I'm still on Baby Step 1. It's really hard to gather up that $1,000 when your income is basically non-existent. I figured I would shoot for the $500 that Dave recommends for people whose income is under $20,000 a year. I'm not even half way there yet! Continue reading »

The first week of Financial Peace University covers Dave Ramsey's first baby step - the $1,000 emergency fund. You are supposed to gather this up as fast as you can, and put it in a safe place, someplace where you won't be able to access it quickly.
I opened an ING Direct account. So far, I only have $115.26 in there, but it's a start. Since my income is drastically low (ok...nonexistent really), I'm shooting for $500 first. Once that's in there, I'll re-evaluate if I can get another $500 in there. Continue reading »

How did I do on my August goals? Not so great really. Things have just been crazy with my husband moving to China, me moving in with my parents....but here's what I did do:

Shortly after my husband started a new job at the end of April, he began to have suspiscions that not all was "kosher." Mid-August, after they once again told him that his paycheck wasn't going to be good, he parted ways. Long story short...he was very right about that company! They are now under investigation by the IRS' Criminal Investigation Department. Continue reading »
I recently came across a website that pays you to join in conversations with people all over the world. Signing up is free - just answer a few demographic questions and you are ready to go! Once you are a member, you can join in a variety of conversations. The only hitch is that in order to make money, you must post your conversation response (click the banner above or HERE to read my first conversation) on your blog, website, or social network profile (Facebook, MySpace, etc). There are thousands of websites that claim you can make quick money, or even get rich quickly, just by taking surveys, reading emails, and surfing websites. Too good to be true, right? Yes...in some cases it is WAY too good to be true, but I've found a couple sites that have paid me for doing exactly what they advertise. Not that I'm going to get rich with any of these sites, but a few dollars for reading email is a plus! Continue reading »

There are tons of websites out there that will pay you for your opinion...usually if you complete several offers. Shared Reviews is different! They pay you to write reviews and vote on other people's reviews. You truly are paid for your opinion! This isn't a program that you will get rich on, but you can definitely make some extra spending money each month. I've only written a few reviews (you need to write at least 8 reviews a month or you loose your ShareScore), but I've made $59! Continue reading »

I'm a stay at home mom, and we'd like to keep it that way. That doesn't mean I can't actively contribute to our income. I've tried many ways to make money from home, from direct sales to opening my own business. I know there is a HUGE number of stay at home moms who want to contribute to their family's income, but aren't sure how. I'd like to share what has worked for me, and what hasn't! This is going to be a regular feature of this blog, so make sure you keep checking back to see the latest money making review! Continue reading »

Towards the end of each month, I plan to post my goals for the upcoming month. These goals will include goals for spending, saving, making money, and paying off debt. I'll update my progress on these goals through the month. Continue reading »
